The top and sides are made of what seems like an alloy. I like how its also about the size of a deck of cards and about that thickness. So all in all Im happy with this hub and will use it probably daily now. The SD card slot was also very good was maxing out the speeds based on my card I had in there so it wasnt crippling the SDcard speed which was great. Used the gigabit port and was getting gigabit speed with a few speed tests.

Lastly, used the HDMI with a 4K TV and it had no problem showing/displaying the screen at 4K. Plugged my iPhone into the USB2 port, was communicating and charging it, so good there. I put a standard 7200rpm laptop platter hard drive in that enclosure and still powered that laptop HDD up.
No issues powering an external USB3 external HDD which had a 500gb Samsung EVO SSD. This hub had no issues powering my DVD reader. I can confidently say that was incorrect from prior reviewers.
Second, I noticed a few reviews of folks claiming it didnt power their External HDD or DVD/CD drives, I was a bit hesitant when I saw that.

What I also notice is that it cannot seem to know its talking to an Apple 87w charger, where if you plug the OEM USB-C straight into the Macbook it will show the details of the charger, again not a huge deal for me as its clear that it is basically using full power during charging. What I will say though is that MacOS System Information screen under Power doesnt show it using full 87w even though the description of the product says its 87w capable, now it shows 81w.
